What If Charging Your EV Was as Easy as a Day at the Beach?
Imagine this: You pull up to one of Dubai's stunning beachfronts on a sunny Friday morning. The kids are already buzzing with excitement, the cooler is packed, and the only thing on your mind is a perfect family day out.

You plug in your electric vehicle, grab your beach bag, and head straight for the shoreline — no detours, no charging anxiety, no wasted time. That's not a future fantasy. That's exactly what Dubai is building right now.
Dubai Just Made a Dh150 Million Bet on Your EV
Dubai Municipality recently announced a landmark Dh150-million initiative to install EV charging stations across 600 parking spaces at public parks, beaches, and recreational facilities throughout the emirate. And they're not doing it alone — they've partnered with UAEV (Emarat EV Charging Stations Company) to bring supercharging infrastructure to the very places where residents and visitors spend their most relaxed, unhurried hours.
This isn't just an infrastructure project. It's a complete rethink of how a city can make sustainable living feel effortless.
Why Parks and Beaches? Because That's Where Life Happens
Here's the thing about EV charging anxiety — it's not really about the technology. It's about time. Nobody wants to sit in a parking lot waiting for their car to charge. But what if your car was charging while you were already doing something you love?
That's the genius behind this initiative. Parks and beaches are places where people naturally spend two, three, even four hours at a stretch. A family picnic, a morning run, an evening beach walk — these are exactly the kinds of activities that give your EV plenty of time to reach a full charge without you even thinking about it.
Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs and Chairman of UAEV, put it well when he described the goal as integrating EV solutions into community spaces. The idea is to make clean transportation feel like a natural part of everyday life, not a conscious sacrifice or an extra chore on your to-do list.
The Rollout: What's Actually Happening and When
The full project targets 600 parking spaces across Dubai's public spaces network. The first flagship phase, set to roll out over the next two years, will see 75 supercharging stations installed across 150 parking bays. Each station serves two bays, creating dedicated charging spots at major destination parks, neighborhood parks, and public beaches across the emirate.
The phased approach is smart. It gives authorities the chance to gather real-world feedback, fine-tune operations, and iron out any technical challenges before scaling up to the remaining 450 parking spaces. Think of it as a city-wide pilot program — except the pilot is already pretty impressive on its own.
The deployment strategy also prioritizes geographic spread. Rather than clustering stations in one or two high-profile locations, the initiative is designed to reach multiple neighborhoods and communities. Whether you live near the coast or inland, close to a major destination park or a quiet neighborhood green space, the goal is that you'll always have a charging option nearby.
The Numbers Behind the Momentum
Let's talk about why this is happening now. The UAE's EV market isn't just growing — it's accelerating.
Over 52% of UAE residents are already buying or leasing electric vehicles. Dubai alone is aiming for more than 42,000 electric cars on its roads by 2030. The EV charging infrastructure market in the UAE was valued at around USD 360 million in 2024, and it's projected to grow at a compound annual rate of over 14% through the end of the decade.
Dubai currently has a network of over 1,270 public charging points across the emirate, with more than 550 commercial EV charging stations available across the UAE. This new initiative adds serious momentum to those numbers — and more importantly, it adds them in the right places.
The UAE Cabinet has also introduced a unified fee structure for public EV charging: a minimum of Dh1.20 per kWh for express charging and Dh0.70 per kWh for slow charging. Standardized pricing removes confusion, reduces overcrowding, and makes the whole experience more predictable for drivers.
Bigger Picture: The UAE's Clean Mobility Vision
This initiative doesn't exist in isolation. It's one piece of a much larger national strategy.
The UAE has committed to achieving 50% electric and hybrid vehicle adoption by 2050 — a target that requires not just more EVs on the road, but a charging network that makes ownership genuinely convenient. The project also aligns with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative, and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to double Dubai's economy over the next decade while positioning it among the world's top three global cities.
Badr Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality, captured the spirit of the initiative perfectly: public spaces are being transformed into future-ready environments that support evolving lifestyles and sustainable mobility. Parks and beaches are no longer just places to unwind — they're becoming active parts of the city's clean energy ecosystem.
What This Means for You as an EV Owner
If you drive an electric vehicle in Dubai — or you're thinking about making the switch — this initiative changes the calculus in meaningful ways.
Range anxiety, one of the most commonly cited barriers to EV adoption, becomes far less of an issue when charging points are woven into the places you already visit. You don't need to plan your weekend around where you can charge. You just go where you were always going to go, and the infrastructure meets you there.
For families especially, this is a genuine lifestyle upgrade. Weekend outings, beach days, after-school park visits — all of these become opportunities to top up your battery without any extra effort or planning.
A City That Charges Forward
Dubai has always been a city that moves fast, thinks big, and builds boldly. This Dh150-million investment in EV charging infrastructure is entirely consistent with that identity — but it also reflects something more nuanced: a growing understanding that sustainable cities aren't just built on grand ambitions. They're built on small, smart conveniences that make the right choice the easy choice.
When charging your car is as natural as spreading out a beach towel, that's when real change happens. Dubai is building exactly that world — one supercharging station at a time.
Ready to make the switch to electric? Dubai's making sure the infrastructure is ready when you are.
