Nightmares

Introduction
This is for a short horror experiment. Dhar told me that the Vocal Horror community did not have a minimum word limit, although this implies it should be six hundred words. I am just worried that with my intro, it will hit six hundred words, so this experiment may be futile π. It allowed me to publish, so there is no minimum for Horror.

Nightmare
Last night I did not want to go to sleep. I knew something terrible would happen when I slipped into those dark realms of Morpheus, and I was no longer in my bed but on a plain of dark, dead scrubland in which creatures crawled and slithered.
Insects, worms and bugs crawled up and found their way into my boots and started burrowing into my pale flesh. A swarm of bats came down and bit my face and arms, before leaving me frightened and bleeding.
I walked on, the bugs and worms still with me, then three cats, who were part of the darkness, attacked me with screeching and howling. They left me bleeding and shocked, before an owl came and tried to peck my eyes out, clawing my face.
I could not see a way out of this nightmare, but I had to keep moving, or I thought I would be murdered by the dark denizens of this wasteland.
Then there was a bell, was it a funeral bell?
No, it was my alarm clock.
It woke me from the nightmare and brought me back to safety.
I have left the dark place behind, but tonight I must sleep again, but the day gives me respite.

Creepy nightmare indeed. I would never recover from that one.
