The cost of goods are rising, and they are rising fast. Things that used to be affordable before are no longer costing what they used to. One of such goods in the market is tomatoes, which is a very necessary ingredient for stew which is one of the most popular and most cooked meals in the nation. However, now because of the rising cost of tomatoes, people are suggesting alternatives to stew. Today, an article made by Vanguard has been going viral on social media and across the blogs. It is titled "5 Nigerian stews you can make without tomatoes" and here is an excerpt of the article and the list of what they suggest:

VANGUARD: Recently, the price of tomatoes have soared in the country. In response, we’ve compiled a list of five economical, locally sourced stews and sauces that can be made without tomatoes:

1. Garden Egg Sauce: A popular delicacy in southern Nigeria, Garden Egg Sauce serves as an excellent substitute for tomato stew.

2. Pumpkin Leaf Sauce: Pumpkin Leaf Sauce is not only flavorful but also healthy.

3. Banga Stew: Known as Ofe Akwu, Banga Stew is a palm nut stew native to the Igbo tribe.

4. Baobab Leaf Stew: A northern Nigerian delicacy, Miyan Kuka, or Baobab Leaf Stew, is a favorite among the Hausa tribe and is usually served with white rice

5. Ofada Stew: Commonly called Ayamase, Ofada Stew is typically served with Ofada rice, a special local variety.

Now, reacting to this list and Nigerians additionally suggesting other alternatives to tomatoes and tomato stew, political commentator and activist Aisha Yesufu is responding to it; and her post is going viral. Here is what Aisha Yesufu said.

Reacting to the suggestions people are making for alternatives to tomatoes and stew, Aisha Yesufu tweeted saying:

AISHA YESUFU: I am surprised that Nigerians are surprised that Nigerians are looking for alternative to tomatoes instead of fighting for their rights.

Is it not here that you people tell people to take whatever oppression is meted out on them and keep quiet?

The people you tell to stay in abusive marriages and endure abusive bosses, teachers and whatever is the people you expect will come and fight when there is a large scale oppression? They will be like welcome to our reality!
