When Mrs. Wattles dreamed about moving from Australia to New England, she imagined many things: colorful autumn leaves, historic buildings, maybe even a gentle dusting of snow. What she did not imagine was waking up to a record‑breaking February blizzard in 2026 that buried the world outside her window and kept her inside for three whole days.

But as it turns out, even the wildest weather can become a cozy adventure when you’re a knitted koala with a warm heart and a curious spirit.

A Morning Wrapped in White

It began early in the morning, when Mrs. Wattles peeked out the window and gasped. Overnight, New England had transformed into a shimmering white wonderland. Snow piled high on rooftops, blanketed the trees, and drifted across the yard in soft, sparkling waves. The wind still howled, swirling flakes through the air like tiny stars.

Mrs. Wattles pressed her paws to the cold glass, her eyes wide with awe. She had seen snow before, just once, but nothing like this. This was snow with personality. Snow with ambition. Snow that said, “You’re not going anywhere for a while.”

And she wasn’t. The storm had shut down roads, closed schools and libraries, and wrapped the whole region in a quiet, snowy stillness.

Three Days Indoors: A Cozy Challenge

At first, the idea of being stuck inside for three days felt daunting. Mrs. Wattles was still new to New England, still eager to explore, still adjusting to the idea of winter coats and icy sidewalks. But she quickly realized that a snowed‑in weekend could be its own kind of adventure; one filled with warmth, creativity, and comfort.

She gathered her favorite things: a stack of picture books, her coloring supplies, a few word puzzle books, and, of course, her dear friends Darwin Duck and Baby Blossom.

Together, they settled in for a cozy stretch of indoor days.

Coloring, Puzzles, and Cozy Creativity

The first day was all about creativity. Mrs. Wattles spread out her coloring pages on the table, choosing soft blues and silvers to match the snowy world outside. Darwin Duck joined her, selecting bold colors that made his pages pop with energy. Baby Blossom watched from her tiny seat, wrapped in a blanket and admiring every stroke of color.

Later, they tackled word puzzles, crosswords, word searches, riddles, anything to keep their minds busy while the storm raged on. Darwin was especially good at spotting hidden words, while Mrs. Wattles excelled at solving clues that required gentle thinking and patience.

Every so often, they paused to peek out the window, marveling at how the snow kept falling, piling higher and higher until it nearly reached the bottom of the windowsill.

A Blizzard, a Blanket, and a Book

On the second day, the storm finally began to quiet, but the world outside was still buried. Mrs. Wattles decided it was the perfect time for a long, cozy reading session. She curled up with Baby Blossom and opened one of her favorite picture books, reading aloud in her soft, soothing voice.

Darwin Duck listened too, occasionally quacking in excitement when the story reached a particularly adventurous moment. The three of them stayed wrapped in blankets, sipping warm cocoa and letting the hours drift by like snowflakes.

The Big Dig-Out

By the third day, the storm had passed, leaving behind mountains of snow and a bright, glittering sky. But the roads were still impassable, and the world remained quiet and still. Mrs. Wattles watched neighbors shovel, plows rumble by, and icicles sparkle in the morning sun.

She felt a sense of wonder, not just at the snow, but at the way New Englanders embraced it with resilience and good humor. It made her feel like she belonged here, in this place where winter storms were both a challenge and a chance to slow down.

A Snow Day to Remember

When the roads finally cleared, and life returned to normal, Mrs. Wattles looked back on her first true New England snow day with gratitude. It had been unexpected, overwhelming, and magical all at once. She had learned that even when the world outside comes to a halt, there is beauty in stillness, comfort in cozy moments, and joy in spending time with the friends who make every adventure, even an indoor one, feel special.

And now, whenever she sees snowflakes drifting from the sky, she smiles. Because she knows that sometimes, the best adventures happen when you’re snowed in.
