1882
For the Unofficial Challenge: Time Traveler Poetry
Call me Sherry of the prairie
When I'm 15, I expect I will marry.
Life is hard in 1882,
So I'll point out exactly what I like to do.
*
I travel to the future
When I'm bored or upset,
Because the future has
Got to be better, I'll bet.
*
I wouldn't milk cows
Or take care of the land.
Food would come by magic,
Just by demand.
*
Where now my bread's kneaded,
I then say, "Bread, please,"
And if I am hungry,
I just say, "Add cheese."
*
The future will surely
Have good things, I hope.
Inventions so I will
Not have to make soap.
*
Self-cleaning cabins,
And self-chopping wood,
Self feeding animals
Sure would be good.
*
I think that I'd much rather
Lounge like a queen
Upon a soft cloud -
Now that WOULD be a scene!
*
I don't really know
What the future may hold,
But hard work on the prairie
Is sure getting old.
