Cadaver

A poem

"Release" sketch with ink pen by Ashley Young

Digging my bones from my grave,

How much are they worth?

Can you tell I have never broken a bone?

Can they tell the many risks I never took,

And the few I did?

What about my scars,

And callouses?

Do they speak of my pain,

The last traces of my afflictions?

What is the price of my ashes?

The same as gold dust?

Toss them both to the wind,

It will not know the difference.

The wind will take us anywhere,

And everywhere.

Where I could never be,

When I could still breathe.

But my life has not ended,

With my former shell.

So study my bones all you will,

I am not here,

I am at peace.
