Say It Plainly Challenge - Write a poem that states its central concern directly without metaphor, indirection, or symbolic substitution.

Aging and Dermatology Conversations

I was at lunch with some elders, and the communications

ranged from sewers, Viet Nam, dermatology, to birthday celebrations

It was hubby's birthday this month, so of course, we were at Dairy Queen.

Not my favorite, but his. Each person is in their 70s/80s. We hadn't seen

each other since last year at this time. I complained of losing my hair

when asked how everything was going. I said, it just isn't fair

~~

The oldest (86) has a rash that dermatology

said to bathe every day for 30 days with this remedy.

Then, after three days, when it was getting worse, no apology.

Dermatology is not my favorite place to go, even though

I have been going for some time now. Scalp injections are no

fun, and I was saying that I am done and not going to go

again for a long time. Why should I, when they did not help me?

I am sure that they can help some people. I will just let it be

for now, and when I'm bald, I may go back. Then maybe

they can do something for me then. We shall see!

~~

I said, My hair is falling out! Dermatology said buy a wig! No was my

response. I had wigs during chemo. No more wigs for me, and why

would I? They get hot, look fake, and the care is a pain. Dermatology

is not getting my business real soon or his! I want a sincere apology,

and so does he! He still has the rash. He probably needs a second

opinion. A few elders were hard of hearing, and I, at one time, beckoned

to one younger female to come closer! She then agreed that

dermatology has been a problem for her, too.

She has a cat, which she may be allergic to.

~~

The doctor said she should take a break

from her cat. Her cat does keep her awake

at times. It is tough to leave a pet. What if she is allergic?

I was allergic to cats after my cat died. Then dogs, too. I would be sick

if I thought I would have to get rid of my cat. We all decided

that dermatology was not helpful one bit, and we were glad we confided

in each other. See what you can look forward to when an elder

A great day of catching up and dermatology dissing, and we did discover

that right now, dermatology is not our favorite provider.

    That dermatologist is so irresponsible!

Nicely done, Denise. On the few occasions I went to see my dermatologist, he was always waiting with his liquid nitrogen. "Tell me what is going on," he would say as he blasted away. In the end, I gave up.

My mother has had some of the same issues. It seems as if they don’t care. It makes me so sad and mad at the same time. It’s not just Dermatology it’s all health care anymore.

I have not needed dermatology. Went once for son's eczema in the past. Went dentistry recently. Not fun either.
