Give It To You Straight

Say It Plainly

I am a whore for metaphor.

In poetry, that’s great.

To dip bitter words in sweetness,

And put it on your plate.

Scarfed down like chocolate dessert,

Too delicious to wait.

🍫🍫🍫

Life isn’t always roses,

As I long for it to be.

I’d cut off all the thorns for you.

I’d do it all for free.

I’d never let your fingers bleed,

If it were up to me.

🌹🌹🌹

Some truth is hard to swallow,

Some sorrows we must drown.

I wish it didn’t sting and burn,

And struggle to go down.

For flowering petals wilt and die,

And colors fade to brown.

🥀🥀🥀

I wish you didn’t hurt yourself.

I wish you didn’t hide.

I wish that you would listen more,

And tell me what’s inside.

I want to give you everything,

That fate so far, denied.

🧞🧞‍♂️🧞‍♀️

We mustn’t let

Misunderstanding

Or let confusion

Turn to hate.

So if you’ll do the same for me,

I’ll give it to you straight.
