If Pain Could Speak

what would it say?

By Imran Ali ShahPublished about 8 hours ago 2 min read

If pain could speak, what would it say?

Would it whisper softly… or scream in gray?

Would it tell you where it quietly hides,

in broken hearts or silent cries?

Would it remind you of nights so long,

when everything felt completely wrong?

Or would it sit beside you in the dark,

tracing every scar, every hidden mark?

Pain would say, “I’m always near,

not to break you—but make you clear.

I visit hearts that feel too much,

those fragile souls with a healing touch.”

It would tell you about sleepless nights,

about endless thoughts and silent fights,

about tears that fall but never show,

and feelings you don’t let others know.

It would speak of smiles you wear each day,

just to keep the questions away.

Of crowded rooms where you feel alone,

pretending strength you’ve never known.

Pain would say, “Don’t hate me so,

I come and stay to help you grow.

Through every crack, through every scar,

I shape the person that you are.”

It lives inside old memories,

in broken dreams and lost “maybes,”

in words you said you didn’t mean,

and moments you wish were never seen.

It hides in the past you can’t erase,

in every regret you still face,

in the echoes of voices that once were kind,

but left their shadows in your mind.

If pain could speak, it would be real,

it wouldn’t hide the things you feel.

It would tell you it’s okay to cry,

to question life, to wonder why.

It might sit with you in quiet space,

not asking you to run the race.

It wouldn’t rush you to be strong—

it knows that healing takes so long.

Pain would whisper, “You’re not alone,

even when it feels unknown.

I walk with you through every fall,

I’ve seen you rise—I’ve seen it all.”

And maybe then you’d start to see,

pain is not your enemy.

It’s just a voice you never heard,

hidden deep in every word.

It teaches lessons, sharp but true,

about the world—and about you.

It shows your strength in times you break,

and every step you choose to take.

If pain could speak, it might just ask,

“Why do you hide behind your mask?

Why pretend you’re always okay,

when your heart is fading away?”

Why do you silence your own cries?

Why do you believe your own disguise?

Why do you carry so much inside,

when all you want is a place to hide?

Maybe pain is not here to stay forever,

maybe it’s just a passing weather.

A storm that comes, then slowly goes,

leaving behind a strength that grows.

Maybe it breaks you just enough,

to rebuild you stronger, brave, and tough.

Maybe it teaches you to see the light,

even after the darkest night.

So if your pain could finally talk,

if it could sit with you and walk,

maybe you’d listen, maybe you’d see—

it’s shaping who you’re meant to be.

And maybe one day, you’ll understand,

pain was never your enemy’s hand.

It was a guide you couldn’t see,

leading you to who you’ll be.

Tell me… if your pain could speak,

what truth would it reveal about you?
