Its Raining My Life Away

Rain falls like my tears

Its Raining My Life Away

It started quietly,

not enough to notice at first,

just a feeling that something was off,

like the air had changed

but no one else had mentioned it.

Then it stayed,

and I realised it was not passing,

it was not one of those things

you wait out with patience and tea,

it was something that had decided to remain.

It rains through everything,

through my mornings, through my words,

through the spaces where I should feel something,

but instead feel this steady fall

that never quite lets up.

I walk through it daily,

not soaked enough for people to see,

but enough that I feel it

in every step,

in every thought that drags a little slower.

There is no shelter for this,

no doorway to stand in and wait,

because it is not outside of me,

it is built into the way I move now.

People speak and I answer,

but it is like speaking through water,

like everything is slightly delayed,

slightly muted,

slightly distant from where it should land.

It is raining my life away,

not violently, not loudly,

but with a quiet persistence

that takes more than storms ever could.

And I do not know when it began,

or when it will end,

only that I am still here,

walking through it,

feeling it fall without pause.
