Memories of a Tesuque Passover
Angels in the Land of Enchantment

We share a Seder plate in the backyard
Under the shelter of cottonwoods
I see the breeze pass over dressed in whimsical white puffs
While willows weep into the creek not far from our circle
We share the warmth of a friendship in discovery
A new fire is lit surrounded by old stones
I smell the smoke of clouded memories
Embers break through on their way to the stars
We share an unexpected leavening in spirit
It permeates everything we were until we met
I hear the song of hearts rising
Everything is tuned to the scale of sisterhood
We share a moment of time in nature
Water and air accompany life stories and intermingling traditions
I taste perfect pairings of the bitter with the sweet
Vulnerability is a small sacrifice to experience the awe of commonality
We share a musical meditation late into the evening
Flickering light settles the soul as we play for the living a prayer for the dying
I know a sip from this eternal cup will satisfy the desert outside and within
Gems of wisdom honor ambiguity and encourage dreams to come
We share a labyrinth walk in the desert
The morning sun illuminates an ancient pilgrimage between parched arroyos
I feel the joy of a quenched soul
Breathless questions answered in the deep sounds of dusty footsteps
We share a goodbye in recognition of having never planned to meet
Leaves guide diamondized light to wave a blessing as I drive away
I understand the gifts of a beloved stranger are forever woven in my mind
Interlocking pieces reveal a bigger picture
I am alone in gratitude for all that has been shared
The wandering and wondering reveal the truth of never being lost
I smile having been entertained by angels in the Land of Enchantment
The Seder plate is empty and my cup is overflowing
