Snow On Pen-y-ghent

A Villanelle Inspired By A Photograph Of One Of The Three Peaks Near Settle

Introduction

I love finding things like this and thinking that is worth writing a poem about. Settle is one of my favourite holiday places and I am there every December.

This is where I found it on Facebook, shared by Ribble Dale. I see Pen-y-ghent when I am in Settle, but not usually clad in snow and sunshine.

Mike Harding is a resident of Settle, and I met him once in The Golden Lion, a really nice and talented man. His website is here:

The only song I know that mentions Pen-y-ghent is "Lord Hereford Knob" by Half Man Half Bisuit, which might sound a bit rude, but is a great social commentary folk song. Twmpa or Lord Hereford's Knob is a mountain in south-east Wales, and it is mentioned in the coda of the song by that name.

This is the song:

A beautiful location, and a beautiful villanelle to memorialize it. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Those pictures are AMAZING! Love the contrast of the snowy mountains against the green of the fields. One day I do want to go there. Keep publishing these sites Mr. Mike, please.

Gorgeous and atmospheric, I absolutely love this and the photographs. Again, your poetry has definitely captured everything great about this landscape xxx

Great poem, Mike. I love snowed mountains, both low and tall. I wonder how Twmpa is pronounced.
