The Wound Of Words
Yes they can hurt more than a fist

The Wound Of Words
A mouth can be a weapon,
Sharper than any blade held in anger.
A breath becomes a storm,
And a sentence falls like iron.
A careless word leaves a bruise,
One no hand can soothe away.
It sits beneath the ribs,
And echoes long after silence.
How lightly people throw them,
Those hard stones of the tongue.
Not seeing where they land,
Not hearing the crack they make.
A child may carry one sentence,
Across the length of their life.
A single moment of scorn,
Turning warmth into shadow.
Have we forgotten the weight of speech?
Have we forgotten the fragile heart?
A person bends under words,
As surely as under a heavy fist.
Yet a mouth can also mend,
If mercy lives behind the teeth.
A quiet kindness spoken gently,
Can stitch the torn places closed.
So measure what leaves your breath,
Let wisdom guard the gate.
For what leaves the mouth today,
May live in another soul forever.

Very true, Marie. Words can leave scars for life. Punches often heal.
