Deserted Island Disc
I recently heard of the Deserted Island Disc. This is exactly what it sounds like -- a 'disc' of eight songs that are the only eight songs you can take with you to a deserted island. As a lover of all things music, this sounded both impossible and like a super fun challenge. After a week of diliberating, listening to songs over and over to make sure my selection wasn't going to get old quickly, and even conspiring with my friend over an Applebee's 2 for $20, I finally pinned down a (tentative but pretty great) Deserted Island Disc.

THE ECLECTIC MIX 2021
A year which seen Trump lose his presidency, which caused a mob to invade capitol hill and the Congress building. A super tanker got jammed in the Suez Canal for 6 days, grinding the globe's commerce to a near halt. Several European football teams attempted to break ranks from UEFA and form a new super league. The Tokyo Olympics finally got under way a year later than planned, as did the EURO 2020. Hosted across several European cities, it marked the 60th anniversary of the competition. COP26 took place here in Glasgow, with world leaders making agreements and plans over a 2-week period to tackle climate change. And finally, just when it seemed like life was managing to move beyond CoVid-19, a new variant, Omicron reared up in South Africa. To date it has spread across the globe, causing the return of previous phased out CoVid regulations.

McCartney’s Greatest Post Beatle Songs
Some people continue to claim Macca has done nothing significant since 1969. This opinion is not borne out by the facts. Maybe this view is due to the occasional piece of nonsense he puts out such as, Mary Had A Little Lamb and that damn Frog Song. A Lennon filter might have made him see sense before getting into the studio.

Somehow we made it another 12 months. In 2021, I graduated high school, turned 18, moved to New York City and finished my first semester of college at New York University. These are only some of the milestones and big events that I experienced this year. As we continued to live through a global pandemic, music kept me sane. I think it’s safe to say I listened to music every single day this year, all 365 of them. I made 12 playlists this year (and I plan to do the same in 2022), here is the final and twelfth playlist.

Songs That Influenced Classic Pop Hits
An angry George Harrison was found guilty in court for having plagiarised He’s So Fine by the Chiffons for My Sweet Lord, albeit subconsciously. The reason he lost was, once My Sweet Lord is put into the same key as He’s So Fine, the musical structure is identical.

Charlie Smith and friends playlist
As you may know, I've had a go at building my first ever Spotify playlist Ultimate Alternative. I even wrote a full-length article about it. So, now I'm back at it again. This time I'm not focusing on a specific sound like I did before. This time around I am building a more diverse mix of songs. The main purpose of this playlist is to say thank you to artists and highlight their music. You will hear a wide range of music styles and different genres. From a listeners point of view, I don't think that this is a bad thing. Even though this playlist could be considered a homage and ultimately some sort of thank you note in playlist form. It should still primarily capture the listener's attention and flow well. I hope you discover some new music from this list and every musician song's that are featured; you've helped me a lot. I know for a fact that you have helped others too. So, thank you.

Songs for bike rides to the boardwalk. Top Story - December 2021.
In the summertime, I always look forward to my weekend bike rides from south Brooklyn to Rockaway beach. I've enjoyed it so much that I've even extended the journey into the autumn and have biked all the way to Rockaway from the Upper East Side in Manhattan. This journey isn't for someone in a rush to arrive at their destination, but if you're like me and enjoy distance biking, maybe you'd like to hear the playlist I made for the ride. I've been missing the warmth of summer and this playlist gives me a taste of that, no matter what time of year it is. I had so much fun curating the songs for this playlist and one song might not necessarily make sense next to the one that follows up, but as a whole, all of these songs share a similar energy and feeling for me.

ECLECTIC MIX NOVEMBER 21
This month past it seems like winter has finally arrived on our doorstep, and we were battered here in the UK by our 1st storm of the year, Arwen. The storm left many people without power for over a week, and mainland seen wind speeds of 70-80mph, along with heavy snowfall across the north of Scotland. I know what anyone across the pond reading us will think that the storm probably sounds ‘cute’ but for us over here, it was a big deal! So don’t take that energy, or heating for granted over the next few months, especially as we are to hit again with some more severe weather.
