  • The Inquest, by W H Davies

    W H Davies (full name William Henry Davies) (1870-1940) was a Welsh poet and prose writer who had an adventurous life that included tramping across the United States, as detailed in his “Autobiography of a Super-Tramp”, and losing a leg when he tried to jump aboard a moving train in Canada. This accident, which meant that he had to wear a wooden leg thereafter, meant that he had to return to Britain where he turned his attention to writing poetry.

  • Thoughts on The Missing Girl by Shirley Jackson

    I have recently added The Missing Girl to my ever-growing collection of Shirley Jackson stories. If you do not know yet, Shirley Jackson is my favorite author. Now that is not to say that she has written my favorite book (that is Tolkien). Rather, I have loved all her work consistently, and the genre she writes in is my favorite: horror/thriller/downright odd. The three stories in The Missing Girl are no exception to my love of Shirley Jackson’s work.

At the time of the 1920's, there was prohibition, no one could sell alcohol but can have small quantities in their house. The flappers were the modern woman, short dresses and rolled stockings to their knees. Cigarettes and short hair were just a few of the more iconic embraces into the new turn of the century era.

    The Frozen Bandwagon. It is one that could not be avoided. I tried for as long as I could but upon seeing the movie the first time just a few short years ago, I was hooked. Not because it was Disney, not that I do not love Disney films, no it is because of the message of the movie. Frozen showed us all that love, true love isn't just romantic, but can be from family as well.

  • 20 Books of 2020 (Part 2)

    I have been up on my usual reading antics and I can tell you that part 2, numbers 21-40 is finished and we will be going through them just as we went through part 1 here: https://goodofferhub.top/geeks/my-first-20-books-of-2020. So without me explaining too much I just want to say how I'm doing it 20 by 20 instead of shoving it all on at the end of the year and it adding up to 400 or something stupid like that and so here we are. You may see some surprises and you may not, but I'm trying to read wider into cultures now, so hopefully it's working.
