Elevator
Betty looked at the elevator with some fear in her big green eyes, she hated elevators but she had a lot of meat on her bones and she could not walk up to the sixth floor of the dorm building. The elevator dinged as the door opened and Betty gulped as she stepped in. Her heart was pounding in her chest and she was quietly panting, panic was rising inside her but she had to take the elevator. Betty hit the button for her floor and waited as the door closed; she leaned back against the far wall and clutched her coat closer to her. It was not cold or anything but her fear sent shivers up and down her spine.

Thirteen Monsters of Britain
A boulder-strewn block field covers the lonely summit plateau of Britain’s second highest peak, Ben Macdui in the Cairngorms. It has a terrible beauty; a sprawling, desolate landscape of wild open space where everything conspires to make you feel small. The isolation of this spot is tangible and when the summit is deserted, an air of separation from the world as a whole quickly overcomes your senses. In Britain’s most Arctic environment, survival is constantly in the balance and, although the long walk to the summit is not difficult in fair weather, the balance tips very easily. Like all mountains, the Cairngorms are fickle, occasionally spiteful, and even a slight change in conditions can throw the visitor into another world entirely.

Marcus - Marc to his friends - sat on the back porch of his home and watched his eight-year-old daughter, Marlena, playing out past the vast backyard that had been such a major attraction to the home in the first place. She laughed and giggled and dashed through the finely trimmed grass, barely more than a dot given the vastness of the yard. There was a line of trees that indicated the start of a vast forest that extended for miles all around the property and in there was the friend she was playing with - Kai. She was always playing with Kai and they would soon both be deep within that forest.

And finally there it lay, silent behind the thick smog, among its rubble and waste. Comfortably the thing slept in this wasteland it called home. Overjoyed as I was to finally document this creature and provide tangible proof of its existence, I knew to move with caution. Decades upon decades of researchers would venture to this world only to be met with its ghostly silence and infinite contamination. With the lack of life, save for the few flora that miraculously grew, many deemed this expedition counterproductive and merely a waste of resources. Once in a great while would one of mine report a sighting, or find unidentifiable prints. Yet with no further evidence to promote regular searches, the thing continued to remain elusive. Only in outdated records and the most imaginative minds could such a monster exist. Still by fate, surely not luck, did the thing that so many believe to be extinct sleep before me.
