The letters LGBTQ are just another way of saying that Love is Love.
We Are Human
I have not always been as open minded and accepting of the LGTBQ community as I am now. It wasn't until about ten years ago that I became fully accepting of it. As a child and young teenager, I always listened to my dad and even agreed with him (to a certain extent) and his belief that homosexuality was wrong. I would even make jokes about the gay couple I saw at the movie theater or the gay couple I saw at the mall some eighteen odd years before.

Does being an LGBTQ+ make you a better philosopher?
A friend from my Peace Corps days recently emailed me: So I’m thinking my next self improvement project is wrapping my mind around the study of philosophy. Having degrees in economics and political science, I was exposed to philosophical principles but didn’t pay much attention to them. I was too busy drinking and chasing women at the time. No regrets. Nonetheless, I look to you for sage advice on where and how to begin my study. I’m sitting at a bar thinking how I should finally read John Rawls A Theory of Justice which has came up often in poli sci discussions and seems like something I should start on as I care about being a principled human.

My life as an asexual
So, let’s pretend there was a girl who never connected well with people. Middle school sucked, as middle school always does. Friends came, went, and changed. Boys weren’t very interesting, but maybe she was just a “late bloomer.” High school also sucked, but more for the stress of school work than personal relationships. Boys still weren’t great. Some of them were starting to fill out, but they were still all so …immature. Not worth her time. Girls were ok to hang out with, but she didn’t really see herself as being ‘into’ them. Her friends liked to joke that she was “the straightest in the group,” but that always felt somewhat off.

Transgender People are Human too.
When I was in high school I lived next to a transgendered person. That person had no choice to become who she was. While growing up he changed into her. Something that can happen naturally in the grand scheme of things. I did not care so many years ago, but others did very much even to the point of threats of getting shot outside of her own house. This was in the 1980s and we have changed a lot since then, but we have a long way to go.

Trans-morgrification
"Trans what?" you might be asking the screen currently in front of you. Allow me to explain. By definition, in the Cambridge Dictionary, transmogrification is "the act or process of changing or being changed completely." I'd also wager to guess that you noticed how 'trans' is separated with a hyphen from the rest of the word. "Is he using a word that begins with 'trans' that is relevant to his New Year's resolutions because it has something to do with being transgender?" You got me. Somehow I knew my brilliant, and totally not overused, play on words wouldn't pass over your heads. Now that you have easily deducted what my fresh start will be centered around, allow me to regale you with a story of how I got to this point.

Home From Break
Ezra walks towards the park. The familiar monkey bars and slides, filling him with joy from his childhood. He just got back from University. On the first holiday break of University. He didn’t tell anyone that he was coming back—but got an overwhelming amount of texts, anyway. He hasn’t replied though.

Winter...
Winter never was my favorite season, I mean sure there's Christmas and all the family time but winter never sat right with me. They say that the change of the seasons can bring on depression, seasonal depression disorder or whatever it's called. For me, the winter is more like a frozen hug. It's like you're wrapped in somebody's arms but rather than being provided warmth it freezes you to your core. The cold icy fingers of winter had their grasp on me and I could feel myself turning colder. Winter is one of those seasons that seems to drag by so slowly, but also will drag you if you're being too slow. The time before the holidays can go one of two ways, you either are done shopping and everything drags until Christmas day or you haven't shopped at all and suddenly you wake up and it's Christmas eve. After the holidays and into the new year is a whirlwind, January typically flies by quickly but the rest of the months slow down as winter creeps to an end in March. The only thing winter had to offer me was you.

A Guide to LGBTQA Identifications
Unless you have been living under a rock since the 1960s, you are at least vaguely aware of the LGBTQA+ Community and have probably heard endless terms that you have no clue the meaning of. It is hard to understand a community when you can't even understand what they are talking about in the first place, so here is a list of the most common and basic identifications in the LGBTQA+ Community.
