marriage
Marriage is not so much a word as it is a sentence–a life sentence.

The black or the brown? Claire stood in the section of the closet that Clive had assigned to her. The house had been a new build and the master bedroom’s design included two large walk-ins: one for him and one for her. Claire resented the fact that Clive’s athletic wear had migrated to what should have been her closet. She kicked at one of his running shoes, imagining the scent of sweat and dirt wafting from it and permeating her clothes with its aggressive stink.

The cup of tea knows everything
The elephant in the room. It’s heavy. I can’t talk, and my wife can’t speak either. I suggested making her a tea; she screamed, it’s not the teatime. I understood that we couldn’t make our relationship work again. I had a seat next to her, tried to count the flames in the fireplace. “They count five,” I said softly.

Married. And Single.
I've been hearing a lot these days about married men who cheat. That’s not news to me, but there are some who apparently have been under a rock and have never heard of such a thing. Well, the story usually goes like this: The husband gets caught. Then the wife usually gets on social media claiming how the woman he cheated with is a hoe, slut bucket, and numerous other things. Her follower’s then cheers for the wife, because how the hell did she get cheated on? They bash the woman he cheated with and wonder how she could do such a thing. According to social media, you have a perfectly happy family and which you have declared that your husband is King, all for us to see and he cheated with a young, beautiful tart? Say it ain't so. I do not mean to make light of a situation that has the potential to change lives, create loss and make you reconsider ever getting married, however, let’s not pretend that cheating does not happen and many times the culprit is a married man.

Capture, Then Release
There is something in the water. Mara only knows this because sunlight coruscates on its surface as it bobs, flashing the bank and surrounding trees like a makeshift strobe light. She spots the pattern this light makes on the bark of a silver gum and stands still for a moment, transfixed, while curiosity builds like an expanding balloon in her chest.
