Fatale
A strange man waits outside a motel room. Buttoned up but nervous, he fidgets as a stunning, young, dark haired woman opens the door and greets him. They exchange niceties and introductions as she lets him in and he makes some inquiries about “getting started”. The girl, slightly put off, does as is expected. Moving towards him, undressing, letting him take her in his arms. Yet, he becomes aggressive, the two moving into a physical altercation, landing them on the ground, rolling around in the shag carpet. Both struggle, both grunt, both becoming more alive to the moment until with one final, mutual squeal, they both go still. Lying, unmoving on the ground, blood slowly pooling around them. From under the man, the girl stirs, pushing him off, she manages to get up and sighs. The opening credits roll over her folding up the body in a suitcase, deep cleaning the room and herself, bleaching her hair, ending in a flash to the title card.

The Stone
Audio: Louise Erdrich reads. Her family drove north every summer to stay at the end of an island in cold Lake Superior, and it was there that she found the stone. It wasn’t on the beach, where stones are usually found, but in the woods. She was wandering in the brush behind the cabin, uncurling ferns, kicking up leaves, snapping the heads off mushrooms. She sat down beside a birch clump, and after a few moments her neck prickled. She had the distinct feeling that someone was staring at her. Looking around, she saw the stone. It was black and rounded, nestled in the crotch of the birch clump. Water had scoured two symmetrical hollows into the stone, giving it an owlish look, or a blind look, or, anyway, some quality that was oddly attractive. At first, she was startled and a little spooked, but then she ran her hand over the stone and it felt like a normal stone. It was about half the size of a human skull and very smooth. The girl’s mother called to her, and she got up, holding the stone, and carried it into the cabin. At first, she put it beside her pallet in the bedroom she shared with her siblings. But then, thinking that her brothers or her sister might take the stone, she tucked it right at the bottom of her sleeping bag. That night, her feet rested on the cool curve of the stone, and she brushed the smooth eye sockets with her toes.

Satan started off as a great warrior for anarchy and free will, a genuine rebel without a cause. He hadn’t intended to be evil, he just didn’t like living by the rules. After being banished to hell, god sends books to earth explaining how to summon Satan, just to annoy him. Every time someone uses one of these books and does a summoning spell, they always ask Satan to do a really monotonous and sometimes evil favor, and after thousands of years, Satan is annoyed. He actually earned his deal making reputation by trying to make deals to get out of doing favors.
