The Big Fall That Happened In My Yard Just The Other Day
Okay, it wasn’t that bad! I didn’t break any bones! I fell over 3 years ago and broke my shoulder, that felt that bad! The difference was when I broke my shoulder it was in snow and ice, not rain and mud! So, even that didn’t look as bad as the photo above!

Over the Hill, or Under Appreciated?
Over the Hill or Under Appreciated? Senior citizens, retirees, the elderly, the golden years, grandparent, etc. Do these terms bring to your mind a particular stereotype? Do you picture walkers and wheelchairs, grey hair and wrinkles, a burden on family and society, expendable or unnecessary? For a moment, I want you to instead picture these adjectives for the group of people I have mentioned; active, experienced, wise, knowledgeable, reliable, needed, wanted and appreciated. I am a single woman over 60, and sometimes I feel I am being put in a box with those negative descriptions. I am not just a senior citizen; I am an active and vital part of my family and my community. For many senior citizens, these years can mark the beginning of a new chapter in their lives that will enrich not only themselves, but the very world that would label them as unnecessary.

Looking Back at Life
I just celebrated my 95th birthday last week. Honestly, I never thought I would make it this far in life…in fact, I figured I would have passed away many years ago. But here I still was, feeling good, still relatively active, having what I would consider to be a pretty good life.

Dementia
I am having a hard day myself, just don't want to open my eyes to do today's tasks. That isn't fair to everyone in the house or me. My daughter just got over being sick with the flu. Thank goodness it wasn't Covid, but he wasn't able to help me around the house. I was doing everything as far as chores in the house by myself. Now, I don't want to come across as whining, but I'm just exhausted. Yesterday, was another day when my stepdad had to go to the post office. I had to keep telling him, my daughter was sick, and we weren't going anywhere until the next day. He finally understood. He is a lot better than before. Now we have learned to communicate better, but we still have bad days. Routines is very important to someone who has dementia.
