A/N: The word 'sisu' dates back to at least the 16th century, where it appears in Finnish texts. The word ‘sisu,’ like many other words, doesn’t have a one-word translation in English; it has been agreed that 'sisu' is an untranslatable concept. 'Sisu' originates from the word ‘sisus,’ which in Finnish literally means ‘guts’ or ‘intestines.’ Some say the word ‘sisu’ explains Finland, at least the Finland of some time ago.
It’s a special word in Finnish culture and roughly means a mix of things including determination, resilience, perseverance, courage, and composure in the face of adversity. In Finland, ‘sisu’ represents extraordinary, long-term perseverance, resilience, often described as in inner strength that emerges when all other resources are exhausted. ‘Sisu’ implies a deep, quiet backbone that reflects an internal force.
Since the 16th century, it has been used to describe this inner strength, and that was before it became a national concept which gained significant international attention during the 1939-1940 Winter War against the Soviet Union.
‘Sisu’ allows one to continue even when we think we no longer can.
It involves a courageous approach to taking action against extreme odds. ‘Sisu’ is closely linked to integrity, honour, and a “stiff upper lip” mentality where complaining is avoided. ‘Sisu’ is not about ego but about enduring with stoic, quiet strength. 'Sisu' is the Finnish word that defines me.

What a great word! Loved your acrostic 😀
The name of the dragon in Raya and the Last Dragon is Sisu. I didn't know it had a meaning. I just thought it was a random name. Sisu definitely describes you. Thank you for sharing the history this word as well. Loved your Acrostic!
Stoicism is not only a way to live, it is also a way to maintain boundaries when others try to cross them. A good acronym to learn, Susan.
I love this! I never heard of sisu before, but I really like the concept. I wonder if anyone would label me as 'sisu'. :D
Great acrostic, even better word, Susan <3
