“I thrive under controversy.” – LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvahlo At the end of the 2023-24 school year, LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho made an appearance during a meeting of the Community Advisory Committee (CAC) responding to recommendations made by this state-mandated group of students, parents, teachers, and other community members who have ties to those who require Special Education services. A brief question and answer period provided the leader of the country's second-largest school district the opportunity to show empathy to parents who often feel that the LAUSD is an adversary instead of a partner in ensuring vulnerable children receive the services they need. Instead, he veered into a complaint about how he is sometimes criticized. He should consider using some of his $440,000 annual salary to purchase armor for his thin skin.

Defenders Of Public Education?
“I love the poorly educated.” – Donald Trump I dropped out of the Democratic party in 2017 during my second run for an LAUSD School Board seat. Frustrated by local Democratic clubs who ignored the party’s positions on public education and unions to endorse my opponent, Monica Garcia, I registered with the Green Party. With their stated opposition to charter schools, members of this party understood the dangers posed by these publicly funded private schools and were more supportive of my candidacy. Supporters of the Green party’s Congressional candidate, Keneth Meija, even distributed my literature as they canvassed within the shared parts of our districts.

The M.O.R.E Act In December 2020, the House of Representatives passed two federal bills that support our favorite girl: Mary Jane. The bill we will be talking about in this post is the M.O.R.E Act - which is the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act, and the other bill is the Medical Marijuana Research Act (MMJ Research Act).

Democracy in danger Modern politics is harming voter participation Democracy used to be said to be government by the people for the people. Now that does not exist. Lies and deceit by political parties, is so common that the people just shrug and say, “they all do it”. There is not even great outrage at the discovery of deliberate deceptions. On the 4th July 2024 in Great Britian, an election was held. The socialist “labour” party won the most seats in Parliament, by a large majority but the voter participation was the lowest for 20 years, it is widely accepted that many votes were cast on the basis of the voter did not want the centre right party, the Conservatives also known as Tories, to continue in power. So labour won because of voter dis-satisfaction with the Tories rather than because they have better policies. This is not good for democracy.

Dear Future President
It's time for another political article because as I surf through Twitter and Youtube I'm seeing post after post about Trump and Kamala. Oy ve and a half. Look what America has been reduced to: Trump, the felon who causes insurrections or Kamala, the brain dead druggie who can't complete an actual real sentence. We are so doomed. Still, if I could vote, I'd give my vote to the felon. At least I can understand him when he speaks.

A Lie Repeated Is Still A Lie
“Tell me who you walk with, and I'll tell you who you are.” – Esmeralda Santiago When Green Dot Public [SIC] Schools last sought a renewal of the charter for Locke High School in 2017, the overwhelming evidence showed that the chain had failed to achieve the promised results. Even the Charter School Industries' lobbying firm, the California Charter School Association (CCSA), recognized the failure, giving the school a Statewide Rank of one out of ten for the previous two years. The LAUSD Charter School Division graded its Student Achievement and Educational Performance a two on a four-point scale. When compared to Resident and Similar Schools Medians, “Locke reclassified [English Learners] at a lower rate”, had “low graduation rates” during the past three years, and had “a high disproportionality suspension rate for African Americans and Students with Disabilities.”
