Buck's Birthday Weekend
I was on my way to visit my hometown for my friend Buck's birthday when I pulled off the interstate deciding to take the scenic route and hopefully find a sub shop that looked good in one of the small towns I'd pass through. I was in no hurry to get there so it seemed like the perfect chance to do something like this. After all, I had several hours before meeting Buck and his wife, Sam.

An Atheist's Exorcism
The first thing I heard was a rattle. No, more like a roar. It was deafening, like my head was inside a jet engine, the kind of sound that stops your heart, punches your gut. It wasn’t just in my ears, but in my entire body. It was in my chattering teeth, in my balled-up fists. It was in my chest which burned like I’d swallowed the sun. It moved me, jolted me like Frankenstein’s monster. I was alive, although it dawned on me that I might possibly be dying.

Between Life and Death
Between Life and Death Do you hear them? Clapping and cheering for her. Her loved ones look so happy as she stands on stage with her long locks and beautiful orange sun dress that compliments her dark complexion. She’s happy too, sort of. She just won a $20,000 scholarship graduating with a 4.2 GPA. She’s proud of myself honestly. She’ll be even happier when she’s off of the stage. A thank you speech shouldn’t last this long anyway. She gets off the stage and walks to her friend’s table.

Foretold
*Knock *Knock *Knock ... *knock *Knock *Knock "Hello?! Is anybody there?!" The man was standing outside of an old antique store. It was dark, the streets were empty, and a warm wind loomed in the air. He was told to by a mysterious woman to retrieve and bring a special item requested of him at this location at 8:30 P.M., on the day of the Summer Solstice. It was already long past the meeting time, but there had been no sign of anyone in the shop keep. The man's patience began to wane.

Sketchbook
He didn’t have any definitive evidence however he knew the tree moved. It was not possible for a tree that stood over two stories high and having a base more than four feet in diameter to move however this one did. Since moving into the farmhouse a week ago every afternoon he sat on the back porch and sketched the entrance to the forest in his Moleskine sketch pad. Stephen now reviewing his sketch would say with some confidence that the tree moved precisely four feet to it’s right. Prone to fantastical thought he hesitated to tell his wife and once he saw her reaction, he immediately wished he hadn’t. Without words he could hear the word relapse come from her. She was always supportive and understanding of his fluctuating mental health, it’s why they moved away from the city with the hope that the new scenery would help alleviate some of the stress and allow him to focus on finally getting his anxiety and delusions under control.

Words Like Wildfire
It wasn't until she had run several miles in the opposite direction of her front door that Serenity finally felt the release of one of the threads of tension strung across her chest; the only problem was, it felt like there were a thousand more still holding strong. God, she wanted to scream. But she knew this town and its inhabitants all too well. The judgment and gossip that would follow would be insufferable.
