Thanksgiving in Sicily. Top Story - November 2022.
Heavenly aromas filled the air of our Sicilian townhouse with such density you could almost taste them. Conversation hummed in the air, a strange, beautiful medley of Italian and English from our Italian and American guests that was as familiar to me as breathing. After thirteen years in Sicily, I understood both, but I didn't have time to listen much, rushing around as I helped my parents with the finishing touches of the meal.

Score: 9.5/10. Gee what would make it 10/10? It’s only small stuff… perhaps: Children being allowed to slowly ride their bikes through the Botanical Gardens footpath, which is currently not permitted. Flattening “Heartbreak Hill” and the hill in Darling Point 😉. Seriously, I need to check out next time whether the kids can ride along Tivoli Ave and the Hermitage Foreshore Walk, rather than up Heartbreak hill and down Vaucluse Rd. But, I can’t say this often enough, this is a world class day out for a family that loves exercise and, views and the outdoors.

Pumpkin Sludge
My life was playing out like a sad country music song. I had lost my sixteen year old dog and my thirty-seven year old baby brother within three weeks of each other. Needless to say, much time and tears were spent grieving with family members. Mommy dearest and I were the only survivors left of my immediate childhood family. My mother had taken it hard when my father passed many years ago, but losing my brother was a different kind of pain. It was a shocking kind of pain that sends you spinning into existential crisis. I could see her questioning the worth of the rest of her life. She went somewhere else in her mind. The trauma was momentarily unbearable for her. Fortunately, I had an enormous extended family that helped me to embrace my mother throughout this dark time.
